Identification:

Title:Ewekoro–Ibese Limestone Outcrop, Eastern Dahomey Basin (Dangote Cement Quarry)
Type:Outcrop
Date of visit:2025-08-28
Investigator/Author:Adeyemi, Olaoluwa
Description:The Ibese–Ewekoro limestone outcrop exposes well-bedded, fossiliferous carbonate units of the Ewekoro Formation belonging to the Eastern Dahomey Basin. The section comprises cream to light grey biomicritic and bioclastic limestone interbedded with marl and shale partings. Sedimentary structures include lamination, burrows, and shell fragments. The formation is rich in foraminifera, echinoids, and molluscan fossils, indicative of deposition in a shallow marine inner-shelf environment. The exposure lies within the Dangote Cement Plc quarry, with beds gently dipping southwest, consistent with the regional structural trend.
